Committed to Serving the Community

It is well known that participation in sports programs can help keep vulnerable community members — especially youth — from engaging in risky and self-destructive behaviors.

Here in New Jersey, where a large number of young people from minority households are considered “at-risk” 1 having access to community athletics programs is critical in improving their opportunities and outcomes.

At the American Muslim Athletic League (AMAL), we are working to keep people from all backgrounds engaged while providing them with opportunities to succeed both on and off the court. The mission of our 501(c)(3) nonprofit athletic and fitness center is to build a thriving recreational hub in which all community members can engage in athletic activities, improve their holistic health, and build meaningful connections with others. Based in New Jersey, we promote the health and wellbeing of people at every age and fitness level by providing access to a range of equipment as well as professional coaches and trainers. In the interest of promoting total health in mind, body, and spirit, we also offer access to guidance counselors and support groups to help our community members address their mental health needs.

In addition to building a community fitness and health resource, our state-of-the-art training facility hosts world-class championships and professional sports leagues. We also nurture emerging talent by offering guidance and direction to exceptional young athletes who exhibit the potential to play in college and beyond. As part of this, we sponsor athletes from economically disadvantaged households, providing them with training and mentoring at no cost to them while helping them identify opportunities for growth.

At AMAL, our organization’s initials aren’t an accident. The word Amal in Arabic means hope. In this spirit, our ultimate mission is to harness hope by helping young people in our community aspire to become the best versions of themselves through the power of play. Join us!
